Sometimes It Really Is Something........

When Usually It's Nothing has come to and end, because my life has turned into, ah. something else.
I have learned so much from you knit bloggers out there, and made some really neat friends.

I have been diagnosed with terminal cancer and I am blogging the transition to the next phase in my life on my new blog, How Soon Is Now.

Please visit and comment often, it means the world to me.

All for now........

Finally Finished.......

My kitchen is finally finished.  What a relief.  Seven months of angst.....

Before....

Oldkit

After.......

Newkit

The end result turned out as it was envisioned but the entire process was fraught with complications.
I honestly did not think it would ever get finished.  I could not take the "after" picture from the same spot as there is a new wall where I previously stood.

Walls were moved, floors ripped up, the ceiling was removed, EVERYTHING was ripped out, gutted to the studs.  It really was a nightmare.

I remember walking into this house for the first time.  I had just driven from Georgia to Virginia, after working a full day.  It was very early in the morning, I got lost trying to find my way through the new neighborhood, my cat Uma was sick from the multi state trek.  I was tired but excited and my body was running on pure adrenaline.  I finally found the street and the new house.  All I wanted to do was get Uma from the car to a clean kitty litter box, poor thing. I opened the front door trying not to wake the dogs, who had already made the trip.  The living room was crowded with boxes.  I sat Uma down and walked into the kitchen and turned on the lights.......

I was distraught.  This was the absolute worst kitchen I had ever seen.  I almost started to cry.  This kitchen was beyond a fresh coat of paint.  It was disgusting.  I had never seen anything like it.  Old and battered is one thing, but old, battered, and filthy is another.  It didn't look much better after cleaning though.......

Then the construction nightmare began......Seven long frustrating painful months.........
I guess it was worth it because the alternative was not an option.  I know I could have worse problems and I should just thank my lucky stars that we could renovate the kitchen, but still.....

Now that the plaster dust will not be an issue I can really start to paint and hang some art....

Next, the bathrooms.  At least they are not as bad as the kitchen was... All for now.....

Buying Yarn Does Not A Knitter Make....

Yes, I bought some yarn yesterday......I have not knit anything in a couple of weeks, but I did buy some yarn.  I just have not had the time.   The new job fills up my days, go figure, hahahaha.  By the time the evening rolls around I am just so worn out I just don't have the energy to knit.  Now that the weather is turning I think I will be spending more time outside running etc.....I do have a new reason to knit as my dearest friend April is with child!  I am excited at the prospect of knitting cute little baby things with Mare as my inspiration!

I really enjoy blogging, and I enjoy knitting, and I enjoy blogging about my knitting, but I am not knitting much these days or blogging for that matter.  I have decided to blog more even if I do not have any knitting content.  There is so much going on that I would like to blog about besides my knitting I thought I would just add it to my blog.  Like the road trip yesterday along the George Washington Memorial Parkway see below.......

Gwmp

Or a Short post on how much I love my iPod Shuffle..........Or a post on how much we loved the iPod Shuffle on the road trip along the George Washington Memorial Parkway......Or how terrible my vision is getting and that the Optometrist uttered the word bifocals in my presence.....You get the idea.....
So I hope your will see more posts here but not necessarily all knitting related.....

The contractors arrive bright and early Wednesday morning to complete the kitchen.........I am not holding my breath........Post and pictures to follow that big ole mess......I will keep my cool....I will not curse at them, anymore....Everything works out in the end...All for now.....

I Knit Last Weekend.......

Surprise, surprise, I knit last weekend.  I whipped up this scarf.  well, actually I had already knit about six inches of the thing a while ago.  I was itching to knit something....

Norosc

It is a scarf out of Kureyon, And I forgot the color.  It is the stuff I used to knit the Noro sweater James with.  I finished the sweater but hated it so I ripped it out.  I do however love the yarn.
I followed a pattern from a little Vogue scarf knitting book, at least that is where I found the pattern.  One uses two strands of the multicolored Kureyon, alternating rows, to create the stripes.  This was even more fun that just knitting with one strand of Kureyon.  I washed this baby and the Kureyon softened right up.  I ended up with a scarf a little longer than the length of a full sized bed.

I FINALLY felted the kitty bed I knit a month or so ago and Uma just loves it....She is sitting in it as I type......

Catbed_1

As you can see she took to it like a fish to water.  Notice the tray in which the bed sits.  I bought this tray several years ago.  As soon I got home from shopping I was unpacking the goodies I found that day.  I pulled the tray out of the bag, put it on the kitchen island and Uma promptly plopped her "fatness" right in the middle of it!  Fatness is Uma's nickname........

The tray is gorgeous, hand painted with a sort of Venetian design, not that we ever get to enjoy it mind you.  Anything for the animals I say, or at least that is the way it is in our house.  That is the way it should be in any house......Life just gets better and better...All for now......

Who Knew? It Has A Mother........

Blue Deep Dish Pizza Anyone?...........

I completed the knitting part of the bed I was making for my cat Uma.  All I did was sit around the house this weekend and knit on this thing.  I used scraps of lopi and knit on size 11 us needles.

Catbed

Now all I have to do is felt it.  I have not felted anything in ages.  I have not had the time to knit in weeks.

My new job is just great.  It has taken some getting used to being out of an academic environment but I do not regret taking the position.  Everyday brings something new and so far, knock on wood, all of the people I have come into contact with have been swell.  I am just now, after six weeks, getting used to the idea of this thing called work, hahahahahaha!

The kitchen counters will be installed on the 11th of February and everything else installed on the 14th....I am not holding my breath......I just want a home cooked meal........All for now.....

I don't know what it is, but it needs a name......

We saw this...thing....today and just had to have it.  I am not sure what it could be.  I suspect it is just some strange thing that needs to be siting in my new kitchen.  It is hand blown glass and rather orange.

Strangething_1

It needs a name.  Please leave a comment and help us name it.  I forgot to mention that it is hollow and we think we are going to have it wired and lit from the inside.
All for now...........

A Kitty Bed and an Orange Kitchen......

Umabed

Mare is knitting a Kitty Igloo!  I can not wait to see what she comes up with.  I decided to knit along with her.  I am knitting a felted cat bed.  I am just using up a bunch of old lopi scraps from the stash.  As you can see by the photo, Uma is going to love it.

Nothing new to report on the kitchen.  I suspect it will be another month before I am able to actually prepare a meal in my own house.  I am so tired of eating out and eating out of a microwave.  Oh well, at least it is orange....see below......
